The Clip Extender Palette is the most convenient way to access all the features of CopyPaste. Let’s learn how to use it.
First you need to get the Clip Extender Palette on the screen. You can “show” the Clip Extender Palette in three ways:
1. Hold down the ⌘ key while hitting the C then P keys ‘⌘ C P’.
2. Select the item "Show\Hide Palette" from the “Edit -> CopyPaste Utilities -> Internal” submenu.
3. Type the ‘⌘ C’ and click while continuing to hold down the ⌘ key (the Palette will appear where you clicked.)
Repeating any above command will alternately show or hide (toggle) the Palette.
By clicking and dragging the resize box in the lower right corner, the Clip Extender Palette can be resized to display up to 64 characters of each text clip in the content area.
With the Clip Extender Palette showing, it’s easy to load clips into the clipboards:
1. Each clipboard has a C button for Copy. Clicking on any of the C buttons copies a selection into that clipboard.
2. Option+clicking on any of the C buttons cuts a selection.
3. If you drag any item to the Palette, it will be converted to clipboard data if possible. Any file can be dragged to the Clip Extender Palette, but CopyPaste will only read the content of Text, Pict and Sound files. If the Claris XTND technology and QuickTime are present, various other file formats are recognized. For all other formats only some of the file info is read in and displayed in the Clipboard Viewer.
4. If you press the command key and drag a file to the Palette, the data in the datafork will be loaded as raw TEXT.
Clicking in the content area opens the Clipboard Viewer. Built into the Clip Extender Palette, the Clipboard Viewer lets you examine the content of your clipboards by displaying the text or picture, or playing the sound. See the Clipboard Viewer chapter for more details.
The clips in the content area can be moved around using Drag and Drop.
To swap two clips, drag one of them into the other's position.
With the Clip Extender Palette showing, it’s just as easy to paste clips from the clipboards:
1. Each clipboard has a P button for Paste. Clicking on any of the P buttons pastes a selection from that clipboard.
2. Option+clicking on a P button pastes the clip and empties that clipboard.
3. Clips can be dragged out of the Palette as long as the “Drag&Drop Helper” program is running in the background.
The Popup Palette
When the option "Use Popup Palette" is on in the Preferences, the Clip Extender Palette will automatically collapse to icon size when not in use.
By simply pointing to the Palette icon, it will expand to the full Clip Extender Pallette. The Popup Palette can be positioned anywhere on the screen. When the Popup Palette is on the right half of the screen, the Clip Expander Palette expands to the left of the icon. When the Popup Palette is on the left half of the screen, the Clip Extender Palette expands to the right of the icon.
Clicking in the zoom box toggles the option "Use Popup Palette" temporarily.
The Buttons
The following is a synopsis of the buttons found at the bottom of the Clip Extender Palette. Their functions are explained in detail later.
The first four buttons access different CopyPaste features.
The button with the Cassette icon shows or hides (toggles) the Clip Recorder Palette.
The button with the Trash icon allows you to free up memory by deleting all clips. To delete a single clip, option-click on it.
The button with the Preferences icon opens the Preferences dialog box.
The button with the ? icon brings up the Online Help window. Option-clicking on the button shows the "About" box.
The next seven buttons access drop down menus for the different CopyPaste Utilities.
The button with the A icon: causes the Text utilities menu to drop-down.
The button with the Pict icon: Pict utilities can be accessed from this drop-down menu.
The button with the Clock icon: these Time/Date utilities can insert and convert dates and times.
The button with the Wrench icon: miscellaneous utilities can be found here.
The button with the @ icon: handy internet utilities are operated from this drop-down menu.
The button with the Document icon: add text to the Clip Archives here.
The button with the number icon drops down the Clip Set menu. Use this to switch among ten sets of ten clipboards. Each is renameable from the preferences dialog.
